The Routers: A Serendipitous eBay Mistake

I was looking for an inexpensive wireless N router and got this high up in the results:

The Routers - never heard of 'em - but that's 'cause it looks like something my Uncle Rudy would've offered to put on the HiFi for me because it was Rock n' Roll, while I waited for him to leave so I could get at his Playboy collection (why were a naked man and woman in bed in that cartoon?). Who knew - industrialized session men music produced for the bargain bin of the sundries aisle of the grocery.... Background music at a teen party in any number of U.S. sitcoms.... In addition they invented, and I quote: "clap clap clapclapclap clapclapclapclap let's go!" hence the cheerleaders on the cover of their third album pictured above which featured one of their hits, Stingray, presented below along with the clap-happy Let's Go.

They briefly featured Leon Russell, who presumably ruined that experience like he did everywhere else he went. Black Cat Rockabilly Europe has a pretty good history and The Routers even have a Wikipedia page, too.

Mr. BrainAsBigAsAPlanet, Eno, Artifact

Mrs. Lex10 suggests: Vinyl 45RPM The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh) b/w I'll Come Running (To Tie Your Shoe)

boomp3.com

Interesting ephemera-y thingie for fans of the inventor of ambient music: The producers of the vinyl items back in the days of Punk & New Wave (*cough* *cough* Where's my walker?) used to get their hands on the masters and engrave messages into the dead space at the end of the cut.
This side, the Lion Sleeps Tonight side, had this engraved:

apologies for the 47 step enhancement - I shoulda just got a tripod out..
also on the Tie Your shoe side it said: "Dedicated to R. Saarikko's Shoes and I. MacDonalds's Polish"
Ritva Saarikko was a photographer who worked with Eno. Apparently not a loafer wearer. Possibly one of the Seven Deadly Finns, a song Eno did around the same time.

A Response/Add On To "Poon is a Hug"

When I first saw this in the film "Don't Knock the Rock" my eyeballs almost fell outta my head.

Years later, I got to meet a couple of the remaining Treniers at Resorts International, in the hole known as A.C. Nice guys. seemed a little embarassed about this performance, though - perhaps it was because they had become so lounge and mature.

We did not poon upon departing, by the way........

The entry "A Poon is a Hug" can be found here.

1,2,3,4,5,6! Roadrunner, Roadrunner!

Rare out-of-print & unavailable vinyl, produced by Kim Fowley (who, astoundingly enough, produced "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaaaa!) prior to the John Cale Produced effort that ended up being a beacon of light in the Eagles, Grateful Dead and Boston poisoned musical times in which it was released.

Demo reel sound, Richman's really overselling the drama, but it classic Modern Lovers with songs that never made it to the final incarnation of the first Modern Lovers Album.

Let's All Dance To .......ROCK N' ROLL !!

A friend loaned this to me back in my filmmaking days, and I thought it could be used as background music. He never got it back. It still could be.

I haven't heard it yet so bear with me. From vinyl, so anything goes. I do recommend skipping the two "unnamed" tracks (despite the fact that they're at the top of the widget). Those particular tracks are swing-ish which leads me to wonder if this is the same Hen Gates that played with Dizzy Gillespie..

It rocks tho, saxophonishly, what I've heard...... in a just-shy-of-Las-Vegas-Grind sort of way.

Rock on rockers in your rock world, rock on.

Personally, I say skip the unnamed tracks......

Xmas Present 4 all of U

I've had this clear vinyl Rhino Punk Christmas Tree shaped record since the dawn of CDs. And because of the dawn of CDs I bought a Kenwood linear tracking turntable (because it behaved like a CD player) that won't play the second track of this EP on either side all the way through.

The pressing always sucked, but thanks to Audacity it has been rendered pretty listenable.

First Xmas cut: The Ravers - Punk Rock Christmas 3:32

Second cut: The Dragons - Silent Night 2:56

Have a good Holiday from Lex10 here at GlyphJockey.

The UK is another dimension

Here' a curious little chicken/egg phenomena: Bend Me, Shape Me, - a massive hit by The American Breed in the US when I was a little kid, but at presumably the same time a hit in England by another group, Amen Corner. The weird part is that the vibe is completely different for each song. When I was in the UK I saw they were always doing this - a commercial (an advert) for "Hits of the 60's" would come on, and it would be all, "King of the Road by Rory Flanksbury! - Streets of Laredo by Rupert Clive! Devil in a Blue Dress by Larry Lawrence and the Lads! - AND MORE!!" It was like (sometimes) the US didn't exist, then next minute life would be a hailstorm of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Humphrey Bogart and Elvis memorabilia

PS: Listen to just the left track of the American version, and Voila' You've got Karaoke....
